Join us for our 2nd annual Christmas movie and dinner gathering in the town of Sonoma.
At 2:00 we’ll gather for the first film, Wedding Plan (see below).
At 4:00 we’ll break for Israeli-style fare—falafel and wine provided by hosts. But please bring something else to share.
At 5:30 or thereabouts we’ll start the second film, Blast from the Past.
Come for one film or both – and of course for dinner.
This is at the home of Stephanie Brown and Jim DeMatteo. When you RSVP you’ll receive the address. (Note: there is a non-shedding dog who lives here.)
Wedding Plan definitely breaks any mold of formulaic in this offbeat Israeli comedy. After her fiancé calls off their wedding a month before the ceremony, a woman decides to keep the reservation and trusts God will provide her with a husband. Subtitles. 2017. Directed by Rama Burshtein, starring Noa Koler.
Blast from the Past is a delightful comedy about a man (Brendan Fraser) raised in a 1950s era bomb shelter who emerges into the outside world for the first time to seek a nice non-mutant girl to repopulate the earth, and instead meets a cynical modern woman (Alicia Silverstone). 1999. Also starring Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken. (Jim and Steph both think it is way fun and silly!)
