ABOUT ABOUT

Please join Sheridan Gold and her mother Sharlya as they discuss sharing their adult bat mitzvahs on October 24, 2000—across the miles in the time of Covid-19.  How they studied, laughed, and learned together, guided by their rabbis—socially distanced, of course—and composed their drashot.  Sheridan will also speak about developing her exploration of The Snake and Eve which captivated those of us who attended — and you will even see the recording of it.

Sheridan Gold, a born musician, fell in love with the silver flute at age 8, a gift from her parents.  She took lessons, played in school bands and orchestras, and eventually graduated from Sonoma State University with a BA in Music Education, and later a MA in Special Education and a teaching credential.  She studied with Al Cromwell from NY Symphony, Paul Renzi from SF Symphony, and Kathleen Reynolds from SR Symphony. Her accomplishments now include teaching and playing the silver flute, Native American flute, West African drums, djembe and dun dun, as well as facilitating drum circles.  Sheridan lives with her wife Dianna in rural Petaluma, and they have raised 33 foster kids, as well as caring for 2 llamas, 14 sheep, 9 chickens, a cat, and a dog.

Sharlya Gold, now a resident of Florida, earned a BA from UC Berkeley, a MLS in Library Science and an MA in Instructional Technology. In her working years, she was an elementary school librarian, a high school librarian, and then a traveling librarian as she went from Santa Cruz to Watsonville to Hanau, Germany and then to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, accompanied by Len, her patient husband. She writes books for children and is a volunteer tutor for the Manatee Literacy Council, teaching adults who want to learn English. She also studies Hebrew, cooks with Sheridan on FaceTime to learn the mysteries of the Instant Pot, reads the latest chapter of her current book to her four daughters on Zoom, and does her best to mother Cleo, her independent Blue Tick Hound.
